It’s important to understand what GMA pallets actually are because there are a few misconceptions surrounding this type of wooden pallet. GMA pallets have a very specific configuration which we will outline in detail.
#GMA stands for Grocery Manufacturers’ Association. The food industry recognized the need for a standardized pallet in order to reduce expenses and improve efficiencies. GMA pallets were created to meet these needs.
So what are GMA pallets? Here are the basic ingredients.

The size of a GMA pallet is 48″ length by 40″ width.

The stringers are notched which allows a forklift to enter on all four sides.

It has a minimum load bearing capacity of 2500 lbs.

The top of the pallet consists of 7 40″ deckboards. These include one 5.5″ lead board on each end, and five 3.5″ deckboards evenly spaced in the middle.

The bottom of the pallet consists of five 40″ deckboards. These include one 5.5″ lead board on each end and three 3.5″ deckboards in the middle between the notches.

The thickness of the top and bottom deckboards are 5/8″.
